Established
in 1968 by Mike Bleecker as one of the UK’s first specialist outboard dealers.
MB soon took on the then unheard of Yamaha outboard dealership, and with a
large show room and workshop was selling outboards all over the country with a
total of nearly 1000 engines a year passing through the showroom and by 1977 MB
was appointed Yamaha Dealer of the year, and again in 1978 1980, 1985 and 1991. Following
this success MB then took on Chrysler
outboards, and again became their dealer of the year in 1972 With Mariner added
to the list they were again appointed dealer of the year in 1979, and then Suzuki in 1992 and 1993. In
1978 M.B Marine branched out into inflatable dinghies by taking on the
Zodiac dealership and again became dealer of the year in 1980. However when
Zodiac dropped their hand built Neoprene based boats in favour of
machine made equivalents, MB Marine decided to drop out of the inflatable
market. As
a natural progression we needed to sell spare parts to back up the Sales
department and workshop and in 1982 opened our designated Service and Spares
Centre, again a UK first. We carried all fast moving parts in stock for almost
every outboard made, and for those parts not stocked we had a computer link to
the manufacturers for next day delivery. The
90’s were a change again when we took on the Ribtec Dealership, and began
rigging new boats for the trade, and got involved with Rib Racing. At this time
Mike began to take a back seat and give son Mark the controls. As the industry grew we changed our focus to the Japanese products, specialising on Yamaha, Suzuki and Honda and were appointed again Yamaha Dealer of the Year in 1991 then Suzuki Dealer of the year 1992 and 1993. By
the mid 90’s the all new 4 strokes were introduced. With fuel injection,
variable valve timing and highly technical electronic control systems we aimed
our focus more towards the workshop than sales to give us the experience needed
to repair today’s engines. This
worked very well but the workshop was too small, so have moved to a new workshop
at Ocean Quay in Southampton, where we now specialise in service and fault
finding outboards and rigging boats for the trade. Please see the workshop pages
to see the equipment we have invested in to keep you on the water.
